About Texas License Renewal Requirements

The Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners recertification requirements are as follows:

1. Recertification Cycle: Acupuncturists in Texas renew their registration every two years.

2. Continuing Acupuncture Education (CAE) Hours: A total of 34 CAE hours must be provided for recertification. This coursework must be completed within the recertification cycle​.

3. Continuing Education Requirements:

  • At least 8 hours shall be in General Acupuncture.
  • At least 2 hours shall be in Ethics and/or Safety.
  • At least 6 hours shall be in Herbology.
  • At least 4 hours shall be in Biomedicine.
  • No more than 4 hours in Business Practices or Office Administration may be applied.

4. Human Trafficking Prevention Course: House Bill 2059 requires all licensees providing direct patient care to complete a human trafficking prevention course approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). HHSC now has an approved Human Trafficking Prevention course available, which is free of charge, that satisfies the requirements. 5. Other Course Requirements: 

  • A maximum total of 16 hours completed in courses approved by NCCAOM or provided outside the United States will be accepted per recertification cycle.
  • At least 18 hours must be approved for credit directly by the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners.
